What's Included
Your Sunrun Shine add-on service includes one professional panel cleaning each year. A certified Sunrun partner comes to your home, safely accesses your array, and removes the dust, pollen, bird droppings, tree sap, and general soiling that build up on your panels over time — restoring the surface so your system can capture the sunlight it was designed to capture.
While we're there, we also give your array a visual once-over and let you know if we spot anything that looks like it needs attention. Sunrun Shine covers the cleaning itself; any repair work identified during the visit is handled separately, as described below.
How We Clean Your Panels
We don't clean solar panels the way you'd wash a car or a window, and that's deliberate. Solar glass has an anti-reflective coating that makes your system more efficient — and the wrong cleaning method strips it, scratches it, or leaves behind residue that attracts more dirt than it removed.

Pure water only — no soap or detergent | Detergents leave a sticky film that attracts dust, so panels get dirty faster. We filter water down to near-zero mineral content so it lifts dirt on its own and rinses it away completely. |
Low-pressure water, never a pressure washer | High pressure forces water past panel seals and can damage the glass surface and frame. Ours runs at a fraction of that pressure. |
Soft-bristle brush on an extension pole | Allows technicians to reach your full array from a safe footing, and lifts dirt without scratching the anti-reflective coating. No abrasive pads, no wire, no metal scrapers. |
No squeegee, no towel-drying | Purified water evaporates spot-free on its own. Wiping is what causes streaking and static that pulls dust back onto the glass. |
Our Partners never walk or kneel on your panels | Standing on a panel can create micro-cracks inside the cells that permanently reduce its output — often with no visible damage on the surface. We work from the roof surface and only use extension poles only. |
Scheduling Your Cleaning
We'll reach out to schedule your annual cleaning at a time that works for you, within the morning and evening windows described above. Cleanings are scheduled based on technician availability in your area.
Cleanings may be rescheduled due to high winds, rain, ice, extreme heat, or other unsafe conditions.
Your yearly cleaning must be used within your service term and doesn't roll over to the following year.
Roof Access and Safety
Our partners work under OSHA fall-protection standards using certified harnesses, rope grabs, and roof anchors. They can only clean panels that they can reach safely from a proper footing with standard water-fed pole equipment.
What this means for you:
If some or all of your array can't be safely accessed — because of roof pitch, height, structural condition, obstructions, or unsafe site conditions — your technician will clean what they can reach safely and document the rest.
If your array can't be accessed safely at all, we'll let you know and work with you on options.
If specialized access equipment is required (lifts, scaffolding, or similar), that isn't included in Sunrun Shine, and you'll be responsible for that additional cost if you choose to proceed.
Standard roof-mount and ground-mount arrays are covered. Carports, pergolas, and other non-standard mounting may require an assessment first.
We'll need access to an outdoor water spigot and a clear path to your roof access point on the day of service.
About Production
Cleaning removes soiling that blocks sunlight from reaching your panels. How much production you gain depends on how dirty your panels were, your local climate, the season, and your system's design — so we don't guarantee a specific increase in energy production or bill savings as a result of your cleaning.
