What homeowners say about Remi
FAQs
Can I have roof work done after my panels are installed?
Yes. However, removing and reinstalling solar panels is specialized work. We recommend using our official roofing partner, Remi, who is trained to handle our solar systems, offers bundled pricing, and a guaranteed quote with no surprise fees. Visit their website here to learn more.
If I need roof work, can I still install solar panels?
If your roof needs significant repairs, it's best to complete that work before installing your panels. This prevents the need for panel removal and re-installation later. We can help coordinate both projects with Remi for a seamless process.
Where should I go if I need roof work?
Our official roofing partner is Remi. They are experts in working with solar installations and offer bundled pricing to save you money and protect your system warranty. Remi makes it a seamless process between your roof work and Sunrun, resulting in the fastest turnaround possible. You can learn more and get a quote here.
Why does my roof need to be in good condition for solar?
Your roof is the foundation for your solar system, and it must be sound for three key reasons:
Structural integrity: Panels add weight, so a sound roof is necessary to safely support the load.
Leak prevention: The installation creates penetrations in your roof. An old or damaged roof is more prone to leaks.
Warranty protection: A healthy roof is required to ensure the long-term validity of your 25-year system warranty.
How much will roof work cost before a solar installation?
The cost of roof work depends on the project's size and scope. If any updates are needed, you will be notified of those costs, and in some cases, Sunrun may be able to cover those costs for you.
We recommend consulting our roofing partner, Remi, who can provide an accurate estimate aligned with your solar needs during a professional inspection.
Can I use my own roofer instead of Remi?
Yes, you may select your own roofing contractor. Please note, however, that any roofing work involving your Sunrun system must be performed by a contractor who is properly certified to work with Sunrun installations. Remi is specifically trained to handle your roof and solar system and offers premium pricing while maintaining most of your Sunrun warranties, making it the easiest experience for our customers. If you choose to hire an outside roofer, you will need to obtain prior approval through Sunrun Customer Care at 855-478-6786. Without this approval, or if the roofer is not appropriately certified, you may experience project delays and risk affecting the performance and warranty coverage of your solar system.
When will I know if I need to have roof work done?
After your sales rep has laid out your initial design, a technician will be sent to your home for a “Home Review”. This means the technician will inspect your roof and other parts of the home to make sure it’s ready for solar. If your roof is over 10-15 years old or shows visible signs of aging like curling shingles, granule loss, or sagging, that indicates that you may need roof work done.
