Sunrun Inspect Add-On Service Terms and Conditions
Last updated: August 4, 2026
Your Sunrun Inspect add-on service includes one comprehensive system inspection each year. A Sunrun technician comes to your home, checks your system's condition and connections, and identifies any issues — so you have real peace of mind that everything is working the way it should. If we find a covered issue while we're there, we'll take care of the repair as described below. If the issue is not covered, you can purchase another add-on inspection to resolve the problem.
We Stand Behind Our Work — the 12-Month Workmanship Guarantee
When we repair something, we make sure it stays fixed. That's the heart of our workmanship guarantee:
If we repair a component and that same component has the same issue again within 12 months, we'll come back and make it right — at no additional cost to you.
For example, if we service your inverter during a visit and that same inverter has the same problem a few months later, we'll return and take care of it under your original Sunrun Inspect purchase. You won't pay again. Our guarantee stands behind the work we did, so you can trust that a fix is really a fix.
What the Workmanship Guarantee Covers — and What It Doesn't
Because our guarantee covers the specific repair we performed, here's where it applies and where it doesn't. A simple way to remember it: our workmanship guarantee follows the part we fixed — not your whole system.
It covers a return visit when the same component we initially repaired has the same issue again within 12 months.
It doesn't cover:
A different part of your system. If we repair your inverter and later your battery (or another component) has a separate, unrelated issue, that's a new issue — not a continuation of the work we did — so it isn't covered under that visit's guarantee.
A new, unrelated problem with the same part. Our guarantee covers the issue we fixed originally, not every future issue that component might have down the road.
Why Your Manufacturer Warranty Matters
Here's something important to know up front, because it keeps your add-on service affordable: Your manufacturer's warranty covers the replacement parts themselves — and Sunrun Inspect covers the inspection and the labor to diagnose and replace those materials if needed. service them. The two work together.
What this means for you:
If a component needs service or replacement and it's still under manufacturer warranty, that work is covered by your Sunrun Inspect purchase.
If a component is no longer under manufacturer warranty, service to that component isn't covered, and you'll be responsible for that cost — even on a return visit. For example, if we service your inverter while it's under warranty, but a new issue comes up later after the manufacturer's warranty has ended, that later visit isn't covered.
How Coverage Works — Real Examples
We know these situations can feel technical, so here's how coverage plays out in the cases customers ask about most:
Your situation | Included w/ Inspect? | Why |
A yearly system inspection | ✅ Included | It's the core benefit of your purchase |
We fix your inverter; the same inverter has the same issue again within 12 months (still under warranty) | ✅ Included — we come back free | Our workmanship guarantee stands behind that repair |
We fix your inverter; the same inverter has a different issue within 12 months | ✅ Included — we come back free | Issue on same piece of hardware (internal…this will change with better tracking in future and not be covered) |
We fix your inverter; it has an issue again within 12 months, but it's no longer under manufacturer's warranty | ❌ Partial — we will roll the truck but customer must pay for new inverter | The manufacturer warranty is expired |
We fix your inverter; later, your battery has a separate issue | ❌ A second visit is not included | Different part — the guarantee follows what we fixed |
We replace your inverter; then you need another visit because your battery stopped working | ❌ Not included under the workmanship guarantee | The battery issue is unrelated to the inverter work we did |
A separate, unrelated issue you'd like handled in the same year | ❌ Not included with the add-on service — see below | Each Inspect includes one yearly inspection |
Why We've Built It This Way
We'll be straightforward with you, because it's good for every member: we're able to offer Sunrun Inspect at $549 a year because of how the program is designed — around one thorough yearly inspection and a fair guarantee on the work we do. That structure reflects how often systems typically need service, and it's what keeps the price affordable for everyone.
If the add-on service included unlimited or multiple free visits each year, the cost of the program would rise significantly — and that increase would reach every member through higher prices. By keeping Sunrun Inspect focused and fair, we keep it genuinely valuable and affordable, for you and for every Sunrun Inspect customer. That's a balance we think is worth protecting.
