Below are Sunrun’s Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) for the CalReady Program (“Program”). This is a Distributed Power Plant (DPP) program that allows participants ("Participant") to earn rewards for sharing energy from their battery system to reduce stress on the grid.
Eligible CA Programs for Enrollment
CalReady operationally encompasses both the CA Demand Side Grid Support (DSGS) program and the Emergency Load Reduction Program (ELRP).
DSGS is a CA state-wide program administered by the California Energy Commission (CEC) to provide payments to reduce customer net energy load during extreme events (source). ELRP is a pilot administered by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) that offers participants payments to reduce energy usage or export energy during times of high grid stress and emergencies (source). Eligible Sunrun battery customers will participate in one of these programs, determined solely at Sunrun’s discretion.
Eligibility Criteria
To become a Participant in the Program, a qualifying Sunrun customer must have a compatible, installed, and operational battery system (“Device”). Sunrun will automatically submit an application to enroll the Device in the Program which may require acceptance by the utility-appointed Program Administrator(s).
Participant must meet the following eligibility criteria and agree to do the following to become an (“Eligible Participant”) :
Be at least 18 years of age;
Have a Device that is installed, operational, compatible with and connected to the Sunrun platform (“Service”) located in an eligible PG&E, SCE, or SDG&E service territory and compatible with the Program design;
Have an active customer agreement in good standing with Sunrun, including but not limited to having no past due bills, and have a valid email address and ACH information on file with Sunrun (if applicable);
Accept these Terms and Conditions and be approved by the Program Administrator(s);
Have an active electric account with PG&E, SCE, or SDG&E in the state of CA with a compatible interconnection agreement; and
Not enroll in a conflicting energy program that would impair, in part or in whole, the Device’s ability to be eligible for in this Program, specifically any other CAISO, utility, CCA, or state program that compensates you for the same reduction in use of electricity, including energy export.
Program Term
Participant authorizes Sunrun to operate their Device for one (1) year from the date of enrollment (“Program Term”). The Program Term will be terminated in the event that the Participant no longer meets the eligibility criteria above, unenrolls, or is otherwise disqualified from participation.
The Program Term is subject to continued state funding and Sunrun’s discretion to continue operating this Program during and after the Term. Sunrun reserves the right to amend these Terms, suspend or discontinue Program participation at any time during the Program Term. Participants may be automatically re-enrolled in subsequent Program Terms at Sunrun’s discretion, subject to the then-current terms and eligibility for the Program.
Unspecified Consent
Sunrun will automatically enroll Eligible Participants and send written notification by email and via mobile app. Unless an Eligible Participant chooses to opt out prior to the start of the Program, Sunrun hereby acknowledges Participant’s consent to become a Participant in the Program. Participants agree that enrollment is voluntary and have accepted these Terms and Conditions.
Unenrollment
Participant may opt out prior to the start of the Program or at any point during the Term by contacting Sunrun at grid@sunrun.com. Opting out prior to the end of the Program Term will result in no longer being eligible for the Sunrun Payment effective immediately.
Program Description and Device Operations
Sunrun will seamlessly control and monitor the Participant’s Device during the months of May through October 2026 (“Performance Season”), which may include but is not limited to changing the Device’s mode of operation and other setpoints, to reduce stress on the grid. Sunrun may signal the Device to charge and/or discharge on certain days during the Performance Season, referred to as “Grid Events.”
During a Grid Event, the stored PV energy in the Device will send energy first to the home and then the grid (if extra is available), until reaching the programmed backup reserve. For this Program, 20% of overall capacity of the Device will be reserved to power Participant homes for resiliency during power outages. Participant’s Device will not send any power to the grid during an outage. Storm Mode (an automatic Sunrun setting for non-Tesla Powerwall batteries) or Storm Watch (if enabled in the Tesla app for Powerwalls) will keep Participant homes prepared for critical storms by ensuring that batteries prioritize charge and hold energy for backup use.
Grid Events can occur any day of the week between 4-9 p.m. PST. Grid Events can last anywhere from one (1) to three (3) hours and may be called on consecutive days, depending on grid conditions. There is a maximum of sixty (60) event-hours for the season.
On non-Grid Event days, Device will operate under default optimized settings. Sunrun may conduct up to 10 additional tests annually to confirm Device functionality.
When the Program Period is complete or terminated, the Device will automatically resume pre-program modes of operation. If a Participant determines any Device deficiencies, problems, operational issues, or wants to no longer participate in the program, they must contact Sunrun at grid@sunrun.com.
Sunrun Payment
Participants will earn a one-time performance payment, ranging in value between $50 - $150 per battery for the CalReady 2026 Program. The Sunrun Payment amount will be determined at the end of the Performance Season, depending on the Participant’s Net Energy Metering (NEM) Rate, the number of Grid Events that occur during the season and the overall fleet performance.
The Sunrun Payment will be available after the Performance Season has been settled and paid to Sunrun by the Program Administrator(s). Sunrun will notify Participant when the Sunrun Payment is available, with instructions for redemption.
Payments are contingent upon the continued existence of the Program. Participant must remain in good standing under their Sunrun agreement, including but not limited to having no past due bills, and have a valid email address and ACH information on file with Sunrun in order to receive the Sunrun Payment described above.
The Sunrun Payment may be paid via a prepaid reward card, as a Sunrun bill credit, or other payment mechanism, determined solely at Sunrun’s election. The Sunrun Payment is associated with the Device, not the customer, as such, whomever is the active account holder with Sunrun at the time of the Payment disbursement will receive the claim instructions or applicable bill credits.
If tax information is required, Participant agrees to provide correct and accurate information. Participant also agrees to these general Sunrun Terms and Conditions for Promotional Offers (the “Offer Terms and Conditions”).
If reward cards are used in fulfillment of the Sunrun Payment, Participant agrees to these Terms of Service for Sunrun Promotions. Additionally, the Participant’s ability to claim the Sunrun Payment expires three (3) months from the date such reward card is sent via email to the Participant for redemption.
Sunrun reserves the right to report all payments as income where required by law. Sunrun reserves the right, in its sole discretion and without prior notice, to amend, suspend or cancel the Payment , or substitute the Payment for any reason.
