What happens to your battery in a "grid event"

The signal

When energy demand in Texas is high, Reliant and Sunrun activate the Texas GridReady network to create a Distributed Power Plant. You don't need to do a thing; the system handles the technology for you.

Smart sharing

Your battery will seamlessly discharge a portion of its stored energy to the electric grid.

Your home stays powered

The system is programmed to power your home first. Only the excess energy is shared with the grid.

Automatic reset

Once the event is over, your battery returns to its normal daily routine, charging back up from your solar panels.

What about outages?

Your battery is designed to detect grid failure instantly. If a true power outage occurs, all sharing stops immediately. Your battery will focus 100% of its remaining power on keeping your home's lights on and appliances running.

Eligibility

Switch to a qualifying plan with Reliant like Reliant’s Truly Free Nights† plan and enjoy zero cost energy from 8PM - 6AM every night. Reliant will cover any early termination fee from your current electricity provider*

*Up to $150, with a credit on your Reliant electricity bill.

When you sign up for a qualifying Reliant electricity plan, you’ll start participating in GridReady and your battery will be automatically enrolled in Reliant’s Virtual Power Plant Program.4
